About Josh Nicholson

Josh has over 10 years' experience in the New Zealand travel market, and has a passion for slow travel, getting off the beaten path and eating and drinking with the locals. This philosophy has seen him complete the Camino de Santiago 800Km walk across northern Spain, the 7-day Kumano Kodo walk in Japan and a cheeky trek to base camp in Nepal. He is passionate about low impact tourism and the ways that travellers can help protect the planet's vulnerable resources.

Favourite destination & why

If I had to pick one I would have to say Japan, the culture is so unique which means even the most basic task like catching public transport or ordering food is an eye-opening experience. I did a 5 day walk through southern Japan called the Kumano Kodo staying with local villagers in the small towns along the way. The contrast between the cities and the countryside is huge, the people were so friendly, the food was delicious, and the scenery was incredible.
