About Jo O'Gorman
With over seventeen years experience in the New Zealand travel industry, I’ve handled both retail and wholesale travel. Starting with South Pacific destinations, I soon moved into planning travel to Asia, North America and UK/Europe. My career has given me the opportunity to experience a wide range of destinations and products, both as a tourist and as a travel agent. I’ve visited islands in the Pacific, areas of Asia, parts of North America and highlights of the UK and Europe. It is my goal to visit a new destination every year and put that knowledge to use in creating dream holidays.

Where is your favourite place to visit in Asia and why?
Japan. It's so efficient, clean, the people are friendly and the culture is so interesting and ranges from historic to crazy! it's so easy to get around too and self-explore
What is your best travel tip when travelling to/in Asia?
Go at the right time. try to avoid the humid rainy season as it makes it hard to really explore and enjoy yourself.
Where would you recommend clients travel to/in Asia and why?
Vietnam - the food is amazing and it's so cheap once you are there. Hoi An is my favorite for a mix of beach relaxing, shopping and exploring.
Japan - there are so many amazing sights and places in Japan and once you get the hang of the trains, it's so so easy to get around. The food is amazing and the people are so friendly and patient. It would pay to learn a few phrases as english is not widely spoken (but you can still get by)
Thailand - the ultimate beach holiday destination. You can do a few spots or just stay put in one. The resorts are amazing value for money and there's lots to do or you can just relax (amazing spa facilities too)
Singapore - an awesome stopover point. easy, clean, safe, it's the perfect city for a stopover
Philippines - completely underrated. the islands are stunning, the people are friendly and it's cheap once you are there.
What is the top thing you would recommend clients do in Asia (could be experiences, activities, food to try etc) and why?
Eat local. it's usually cheaper and the food is fresh and amazing. and go to all the must see sights. they are must see and busy for a reason.
Do you have any other travel expert advice/comments you would like to share about Asia?
Asia is a bit like Europe where you are better to spend a decent amount of time in each country. do it once and do it well.
